Where to focus my iternerary? At the moment I am going to the following cities for the following number of days. I know u can spend eternity in 1 place but is this sufficient time to see the main sites?
Yangon 2 days
Bagan 3 days
Mandalay 3 days
Inle lake 2 days
Offhand I'm thinking of making Mandalay 2 days and increasing bagan to 4 days. Any thoughts?

1click here FAQ 72 Burma basics
I take it you are flying out of Yangon at end of trip so:
Yangon leave same day mandalay (overnight bus ) 1 night yangon first day of arrival do sagaing inwya and Ubein bridge sunset share taxi with others in GH book next night overnight bus to naungshwe Inle
next am Mingun boat ride (take mobo from Gh to 8am ferry) bus to Inle day of arrival do the boat trip on lake to include Indein next day walk out to Bhuddist monastary caves and along mountain next am Taungyyi dayb trip on pick up and next am early pick up to Kalow
kalow overnight and day bus next am to Bagan 2 days bagan and overnight to Yangon last night yangon fly out OK what next?

2Except for Mandalay I did exactly the route you mention in that amount of time. I captured those places in my video so have a look and decide yourself on where you want to stay longer : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-isgplZXqxU

3Two full days in Began' I thought, was ample time before you start getting templed out!! We then moved from there by boat, which took a day, to Mandalay. Now I loved the day on the river, listened to some MP3's, no distractions, watching the world go by relaxing. Other's were moaning about the time it took, and this was the 'fast' service!! How people can moan about a day spent relaxing on the Irrawaddy river is beyond me. Mandalay - We spent a day there saw the palace which was really a total modern reconstruction, went up Mandalay Hill and then had to get away from the smog as it really was quite overwhelming. Hit Hsipaw the next day by bus which was a lovely quiet small town with some nice quiet walks We were there a few days till we travelled back to Mandalay then flew from there to Yangon which wasn't very expensive but gave me an extra day of my two week holiday.

6I definitely think you should spend more time at Inle Lake! The Indein Ruins, floating market, sunset and especially the southern side of the Lake (the less touristy part) are just wonderful. You'll need at least one more day there for sure! I'm so pleased to see you're devoting a substantial amount of time to Bagan though, that's often a place people try to do in a day and there is so much to see. The hot air balloon rides are amazing!

7We flew into Mandalay from Bangkok and made a corkscrew down - 23 days (there is no reason to fly to YGN only to go to Mandalay)
Our route: Mandalay, Bagan, Kalaw, Pindaya, Nyaung Schwe, Yangon, Mawlamyine, Hpa An, Yangon and out.
