4all for vaccinations, but there is some bloody awful journalism there. The caption is '....stickler for vaccinations because a friend returned with malaria...'. There is of course no vaccine for malaria.
otherwise, yes: it is a) stupid and b) irresponsible not to get the jabs, take the preventative tabs and wear insect repellent 24/7.

8What is underestimating the risk? I've not read the article, but a quick scan of the article doesn't help in correctly estimating the risks. The number of figures is limited and figures provided are pretty much meaningless.
Without making a plea for or against immunization you should put it in the right perspective. How big are the risks really? For most destinations the risks of (traffic) accidents are far and far bigger than of attracting some travel related illness. Immunizations also have, sometimes debated, negative health effects. One of the most obvious negative consequences of (excessive) drug use by travellers is malaria parasites becoming resistant.
Apart from the challenge to find reliable and meaningful figures it may be debated how to act on the figures. How do you weigh short term risks versus longer term risks, how do you weigh personal risk versus risk for other people (future travellers, locals)?

9This is always a concern for me.....CDC will tell you what you MUST get, but also "recommends" other vaccinations. I think you have to do your own research on top of it, weigh the risks & benefits, and length of your trip, how careful you are with food/ water/ repellant & say your prayers! I could get hit by a bus tomorrow. Never any guarantees........but as someone mentioned, traffic accidents are huge risks.
