Pamir Highway On Public TransportI am planning on traveling along the Pamir Highway from Dushanbe to Osh probably at the end of August or the start of September.
I will be traveling solo and as a rough itinerary I'm hoping to travel Dushanbe - Khorog - Ishkashim - Yamchun - Langar - Alichur - Murgab - Osh.
As hiring a vehicle for the whole or large lengths of this journey would be far too expensive on my own, how frequent is the public transportation beyond Khorog? Would it be easy enough to travel this route on a mixture of public transport and short hire between towns and sites? Other than Murgab to Osh is there any areas where transport is thin?
I would only have about 2.5 weeks to travel between Dushanbe and Bishkek.
Many thanks in advance for the replies!

1I'm not sure what you mean by "public transport". There are no trains, no buses and no flights within the GBAO. There are only shared taxis. These go if there are people. No people means no taxis, unless you want to pay for the whole thing yourself.
Trying to get a ride outside the main centres, (Murgab, Khorogh or Ishkashim) is tough. I was stuck in Langar for 2 days as there were very few vehicles and ones there were were full. While in Karakol, i saw 5 cars pass, all full.

2I did this route in November, and there is no public transportation in the Pamirs. The shared taxis go when they are full, which could take days. I never saw an empty seat in any cars in the Pamirs -- the cost and difficulty of traveling there make it such that cars are totally full and hitching is almost impossible. I'd not risk trying to find a seat in a shared car anywhere outside of Murghab.
That being said, you might find other travelers once you get to Khorog to hire a car with -- there is a nice traveler's center in Khorog that helps connect people. It's in the park near the river. Best wishes and happy travels!
