Booking Rail/Ferry Trips While still at Home

Booking Rail/Ferry Trips While still at HomeI was wondering if anyone else is having this issue. I plan on visiting Europe in June, and I wanted to do the rail & sail ferry that gets you from London to Amsterdam overnight. I went to the website to buy the tickets, only my credit card and debit card were both declined. I'm not in any financial difficulty and I definitely entered the correct #s and info. I also called my credit card company to let them know I'll be traveling abroad, and asked them why I'd be declined, and they couldn't help me. The website doesn't say anything beyond "declined. Check information", so I really don't understand why my payment wouldn't go through. Is this a common problem with travelers outside of the UK? Should I just attempt to call the booking company and do it over the phone?

2I plan to use the same service and have encountered the same problem. I believe there is a toll free phone number in the US for booking on the Stena Line. My trip is a couple months later than yours so I've put off booking the ferry and don't remember how I found the booking number but it's there. There are also numbers in the UK and as cheep as international calls are these days that's not an unreasonable option.
Seems for a number of reasons it's getting harder to use US bank credit cards overseas, we just aren't the advanced nation we once thought we or pretended were were.

6Here's an email I received from Stena today:
"Thank you for your email received in this office today.
We have recently had to stop all US card payments being processed through our website, this is because of a high volume of fraudulent use with US cards recently within the UK.
You can however still make a reservation using your card but this would need to be booked via our reservations department over the telephone.
If you wish to confirm a booking with us please do not hesitate to contact our reservations team on Freephone 1-866-261-0359 where a member of our team will be happy to assist you further."
so they do have a US phone number.
