Guilin - northern and southern Thailand - Hong KongWe'll be in Hong Kong towards the end of August for 21-22 days & would like to do Guilin - northern Thailand - southern Thailand - back to Hong Kong. Trying to work out which airlines to go for with early bird deals available. Willing to travel by train or bus but might be pushed for time. Ideally 3 days in Guilin 8-10 days in southern Thailand on nice beaches (been to Phuket & Krabi/Lanta).
Would also like to go to northern Thailand (Chiang Mai) if we can. Any suggested itineraries would be welcome.
From Hong Kong to Guilin, is Shenzhen the cheapest route? Where can we pick up our visas?
What is the weather like in those places, end August-mid September? Thanks.

1Visa - best to get in your home country for China. You can get in Hong Kong if needed.
Air Asia flies to KL from Guilin and Nanning, or head back to Shenzhen or Hong Kong to flights to Thailand.
Flights to Guilin are cheap from Shenzhen and from Hong Kong- Look on sites such as elong.net , ctrip.com and travelzen.com. Remember to factor in the cost of getting to Shenzhen airport from HK when looking at fares.
August in Hong Kong and Guilin will be hot and humid, and maybe rainy. September slightly less so.
I would probably either focus only on China - Guilin, Yangshuo, rice terraces, and then into Yunnan.
Or, just go to Thailand. Choose an island that has good weather at that time of the year - look here: http://tezza-thailandbeachesandislands.blogspot.com and then also spend time visiting the rest of the country - Ayutthaya and Sukhothai before heading to Chiang Mai and other places in the north.
