Mount Fuji: climb?Hi all,
We are a group of 3 boys planning a 2-week-trip to Japan, and we would like to go to Mt Fuji from Kyoto (on our way back to Tokyo). However, I can't find all the info we need on the internet:
1) Is it worth climbing it?
2) How many days should we plan in order to do so? We were thinking not more than 1 day, is it feasible?
3) We are total amateurs in terms of climbing, do we need to have some special equipment?
4) How much does it cost?
Many thanks for your help! :)

climbing season just opened on mt. fuji and also recently added to the UNESCO World heritage site, so they are expecting more climbers than ever. As far as numbers go, it may be one of the most beloved mountains in the world (to be climbed) as more than 250,000 climbers climb each year, and this year will have record numbers too.
it is totally worth it to climb, and you will get instant Japanese street cred for climbing it. It is sacred, majestic, and beautiful, not to mention an amazing experience.
There are plenty of english guided tours departing from shinjuku. and these tours are actually a good deal because they are waived the climbing tax, park entrance and private-car fee (to deter people from coming in small cars and congesting the area with cars and smog)
I just booked one for a friend coming next month. check out their site http://bigs.jp/en/
hope that helps!
