Shangrila-Sichuan trekking, may 1 - 18Hi,
I'm solo traveler and going to enjoy my Yunnan - Sichuan trip in may. I will arrive to Lijiang on 28 april and will leave China through Chengdu / Guangzhou on 19 of may.
My itinerary is to move from Lijiang through Tiger Goarge to Shangrila, to have some trekking in the Mt. Meili / Yubeng and its surroundings and than probably try to go to Daocheng - Yading area (if possible) and than to Hailuogou / Mt. Minya Konka. This is my preliminary route and some adjustments of course may occur on my way. If somebody are on the same route and would like to share joined trekking in some of this areas - you are welcome to join me.
May be somebody can suggest some another beautiful destinations worth to visit along this route. Have someone traveled in Xiangcheng?

1I’m not suggesting you have Shanri La- Daocheng- Changdu trip because of;
1. Daochang/Yading closure during Mar- Jul, 2013.
2. Daocheng- Changdu shall via Kangding/ Tian Quan county that had EQ recently.
Yes, you shall trek on Lijiang- TLG- Shangri La- Yubeng.
Below are my itineraries on Lijiang- TLG (2009) and Yubeng (2012).
Lijiang- TLG (5-days)
D#1: Lijiang- Jade Dragon Mt.- Baishui He- Da Ju.(by car)
D#2: Da Ju- WalnuGgrove (cross Jīnsha Jiang)- Middle TLG
D#3 & D#4: Middle TLG- Upper TLG (trekked on the upper trail)
D#5: Upper TLG- Baishui Tai- Shangri La (by car via Haba Snow Mt.)
D#1: Feilaisi- Xi dang Hotspring (by car)- Upper Yubeng
D#2: Upper Yubeng- Ice Lake- Upper Yubeng
D#3: Upper Yubeng- Lower Yubeng- Sacred Waterfall- Lower Yubeng- Upper Yubeng
D#4:Upper Yubeng- Ní Nong (trekked)- Feilaisi
You have few Yubeng trek options such as 12-days loop or 5-days trek (+ 1day to Sacred Lake)

3Check http://www.SCMP.com South China Morning Post from Hong Kong for updates on the 7.0 Richter magnitude Earthquake in Yaan, 85 km from Chengdu. The road north of Shangri-la near Tibet to Chengdu is closed to foreigners.
Stay at http://www.mayhostel.net in Lijiang's Old Town to find printed maps of Tiger Leaping Gorge trails. Stay at Woody's or at Tina's guest houses at Walnut Garden. Stay at the new Shangri-la Tavern Hostel in Shangri-la email@example.com for beautiful room and great food. Stay at Chengdu's Mix or Lazy Bones backpacker hostels http://www.mixhostel.com for excellent tours information in Sichuan and Tibet and great social environment. Most of these hostels are also on http://www.hostelbookers.com if you wish to check their ratings.

4Re post#2, at current situation, I don't know what will happen on Kangding- Chengdu.
If you're insist to Hailuogou / Mt. Minya Konka and road blocked on Kangding- Chengdu/Emei/Leshan/Meishan direction, an alternate plan is detour to Xichang by bus then to Chengdu.
The bus departure at 06:00, bus fare RMB1180.50pp.

8Hey there. I own and run Zhilam Hostel in Kangding. The roads between Chengdu and Kangding are open for travel. Daily buses are traveling no problem. I drove myself yesterday and was surprised that I saw no damage along the route...even though the road does travel through Ya'an where the earthquake hit. We took a moment and paused to remember those that lost so much.
So, if you are up for the usual adventure...go ahead and try your planned itinerary. We have guests coming from Lijiang to Litang and over to Kangding quite often. It is a long hard journey...but hey, that's what your here for right?!
