Driving from Zagora to TafraouteCan anyone advise on driving time and road conditions from Zagora to Tafraoute via *Tata*? I'm going next week and driving alone (French-spking middle-aged woman).
Also from Taroudant to Zagora - though I think that's more straightforward - I hope.
I intend to cover each of these routes in a day--- 4 - 5 hrs pn the road - is that possible?
Many thanks in advance for tips / advice.

5...... Tim's comment on average speed over roads in the area discussed above is correct, if you can achieve 60km per hour you'll be doing well.
On reflection I can give a few examples, from Taroudannt to Talouine it takes me 2.5hours. at that rate to reach Zagora would take me 7+ hours.
One particular stretch I recall between Igherm and Tafraoute took me 2 hours, its very slow going and hazardous.
see this map for the area.... https://maps.google.ie/maps?ie=UTF8&cid=12006248970030090859&q=La+t%C3%AAte+du+lion&iwloc=A&gl=IE&hl=en
This is a clip showing how narrow and slow it can be.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3L1_GKmdbp8 ... and from Ouarzazte. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKFCh6ZpyfY

8David: "I like the Hotel Renaissance" in Tata.
You and khamlia both. What's funny is that given so few reviews on TripAdvisor, one of the other positive reviews is from my good friend Peter Buitelaar from Ouarzazate, see http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g304021-d1631879-Reviews-Hotel_de_la_Renaissance-Tata_Guelmim_Es_Semara_Region.html#REVIEWS

9so much emotion :)
Yes, hotel Renaissance was very nice, I liked it much. Wanted stay there again on my way back but the guys like you Tim, occupied the whole hotel. So many motorbikes outside LOL.
By the way Tata too, so clean, so calm, nice people, that city is worth to stay more than only overnight, but ...

10I would love to go back to Tata, and interestingly I know a few people here in Taroudant who emanate from there.
Sitting in a cafe and people watching is an absolute must there, imo.
It's very clean, almost no beggars. People are more dark complected there. The ladies dress so beautifully in their long white skirts, often with black tops and head coverings.
Yes, and the people are gentle and friendly.
And it also may be getting quite warm even now, as Taroudant has a high of 38C today, not even the end of April. I just checked Tata, and it's also at 38, 1pm.
Go out early mornings, do nothing in the heat of the day, and enjoy the lovely evenings.
