5 months S.E.A in monsoon season - order to see each country?I'm a New Zealander and I arrive in Bangkok on 29th May this year. Will stay close to Bangkok for 6 days as I fly to Burma on 4th June. Then I fly back to Bangkok end of June and am wondering what order to see things over the next four-five months. I want to spend most of my time in Thailand but also see Cambodia, Laos and maybe Malaysia and/or Borneo. Since its monsoon season the weather will be a big factor in deciding where to go. Also i'll be trying to stick to a backpackers budget.
Since I arrive from Burma by air I figure its best to spend 29 days (or so) in Thailand then head to Cambodia and Laos for about 4-6 weeks. Apply for the 60 day Thai Tourist Visa while there then come back overland and head down country from Chiang Mai.
1. Is this a good plan considering weather/visas?
2. Where is a nice beach place to stay for 2-3 days near Bangkok when I first arrive? I'm considering Pattaya, Rayong and Hua Hin but open to other suggestions.
3. Is it best to go to Ko Tao/Ko Samui area in July or Sept/Oct? (if not July then where should I spend that month?)
4. I don't have a flight booked out of Asia yet - will this be a problem? (it's my first time to Asia).
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Cheers.
