17Merlyn Guesthouse a great place to stay!!!!
We had a few average experience in Tuktuk but this one was a winner. We ended up staying here 5 days and couldn't be happier. The place is pretty well located, very nice and quiet, the garden in front of the lake is beautiful. Direct access to the lake where you can swim in clear waters. 5 min. to closest harbour. The owners are one of the most friendly & helpful people we met in Tuktuk. So we would be more than happy to come back!!!
Room Tip: Nice, quiet & clean rooms. Little place, intimate, not packed. Good value for money!!!

I am in the process of planning a trip to lake Toba next year and need to have a reasonable internet connection whilst there (unfortunately).
Can anyone recommend a mobile phone arrangement so that I could tether 3g internet? Are there any providers that have better coverage in that area and could I just buy a sim upon arriving in Indonesia?
Any help much appreciated.

19Telkomsel have probably the widest coverage in Indonesia including many places with 3G. They also have some data plans which work out well (IDR 100,000 for a month). Ask when you get your card though many people selling cards and pulsa do not understand muchEnglish. When you use them you will get an SMS telling you how to get an App for your phone to monitor its usage.
In Tuk-tuk many places (restaurants and places to stay) have wifi - some with free wifi.
