New Zealand During July?!So I am from the States and have visited San Francisco and New York so far (I reside in LA) and am so tired of these cities!
I wanted to get away from the crowded cities and will be traveling in july-august to God knows where.
I wanted to go to New Zealand, but I heard that it will be snowing during this time and was wondering if anybody knew of any places I could go at this time that is reasonably cheap, or if there was anybody that went to NZ during this time and had a great time.
My interests include AMAZING/BREATHTAKING sights, great foods (I love to try all kinds of foods and am very open-minded), and friendly people to share stories with.
I don't mind staying in hostels, nor do I drink.
PLEASE HELP A NOVICE TRAVELER!

1The South Island to me is way more scenic to me it is sort of a mini Norway, but there is the catch it will be colder down there than the North island.
The weather down there will be the exact opposite of the Northern hemisphere, and seeing you live in far warmer LA i would think it is not a great time to go down there to do some walking.

My brother lives in NZ so I've been many times and I can help you here. The South island is stunning and never more so than in winter, when you get the snow-capped mountains and the glaciers go into hyperdrive. If you want to escape the cities it is a perfect place to go - there are roughly the same number of people in the whole of NZ as you will find in the city of Melbourne alone (where we at LP are based) so there's lots of space!
BUT, if you don't like the cold (?) this is not the time for you to visit this beautiful part of the world. July/August is peak skiing season too, so some places in the South Island will hike their prices over that period and if you're on a budget it'll make your trip more expensive (NZ isn't cheap anyway - it's comparable to US for prices).
