21Motorbikes are banned at certain periods in Hoi An -- I haven't been able to figure out what the schedule is -- and it is quite a pleasant place during those hours. However, the minute the streets are open again, there is a group of maniacs who roar in at top speed to see how close they can come to the pedestrians and scare the sh-- out of everyone. Spoils the whole effect of the closure. Find out when the restricted time ends and get out of town!
Roadking95 I totally agree with your comment, but I don't hold any hope that things will change! In recent years the number of traffic police has been vastly increased, but they spend all of their time on roadside checks and ignore the harrasment of pedestrians. It's a pedestrians-last policy throughout Vietnam . (Actually, I did see a promising sign the other day -- some pedestrians in Hanoi were scolding a motorbike driver for stopping on the zebra lines! After that, we resumed dodging the bikes driving on the sidewalk - business as usual.)
