7 days in Japan, Late April-Early MayHi there,
I'm planning a trip to Japan to visit a friend and see the sites sometime between April 25th - May 7th, the actual dates are still unclear but it will be 7 days total. My friend lives near Tokyo in Sagamihara. I'd like to expereince both the craziness of Tokyo city, but also see some temples and get to see that some idyllic parts of Japan. I'd even be up for travelling a little farther afield to see something. Does any one have any excellent temples, parks, historical landmarks, or places in the city I should see? Or, has anyone done a similar trip, and what were their impressions of travelling in Japan in a 7 day timeframe? I am debating adding Kyoto in as well, what do you think?
Background: I'm currently living in Beijing, China, though I'm from the US, so I'd like to see what makes Tokyo different from Beijing. I know, there are many, many, MANY differences, but what stands out the most, what should I definitely NOT miss?
ETA: It could be good to note that I'm VERY interested in:
Visiting a shrine. Do you know any really peaceful/atmospheric/old/pretty shrines?
Enjoying a garden. Tell me which is really beautiful.
Eating delicious non-sushi food (nothing against it, I want to branch out). Suggest a dish!
Buying some beautiful, Japanese (..obviously..) prints. Where is a good place with good variety, quality and price?
Any outside of Tokyo daytrips to suggest?..Maaybe to the coast?!
