Rtw trip adviceHi people, I'm looking into going travelling January 2014 so I've got some time I know, I'm doing a 12 month stint as that's the maximum my work will allow, but I think that would be enough time anyway.
The big plan:
Vietnam, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, USA, Canada, I'd like to include china and Japan but budget I don't think will allow.
Realistically my budget in total, including everything would be £10k
My question is am I asking too much on that sum of money?
Also any recommendations on experiences? I'm up for anything really, any of you been in a shark cage? Looks fun
Another concern is finding work in Oz, and meeting people in various locations any tips?
Sorry for my lack of knowledge but I've only just started looking into this trip in a bit more depth.

22 Yes,I've done it (in South Africa)...I enjoyed it.Things like that will take a large chunk out of your (low) budget though...
3 Meeting people is easy enough....other travellers if you stay in hostels,go on day tours or hang out in places where they do.Local people also easy (of course it helps if you speak their language).
As for working in OZ...well,you will need a work visa. Then you will need to find a job.And its a very expensive country to stay in and to travel in.I wouldn't count on earning enough for further travel while you are there.......

3You can't afford all those expensive countries on a budget like that. Shorten your trip by a lot, or, maybe just skip Canada and the USA, and cut way back your time in OZ.
If you really want a year, and you mostly stick to Asia. a wealth of possibilities open up. Like China, Indonesia, India, Nepal, Laos, Malaysia, etc. Even w/ that plan, you'd best save Japan until the end of the year, because you might not have enough money left.

4agree with all that been said.....from your post i read it as you want to travel in up to 9 countries and spend time working in Oz too in 1 year......trying to fit in too much. your budget for your proposed trip is also not enough. lets say a RTW ticket costs you £1000, then you have to get travel insurance, a Working Holiday Visa and then countless other small preparation costs......new backpack, vaccinations, etc etc etc. you will be very lucky if you have approx 8500 left for travel......over 12 months that works out at £23 a day........might not even be enough for travel in the cheaper countries like Vietnam & Thailand......not even close for other countries on your list.
like mstep says on that budget if you want to stay away for a year you need to look at cheaper regions......for example India & SE Asia.....much cheaper to fly to (no need for RTW ticket just book return flights)

5If your tastes run to activities like shark cage diving there's no way your budget will last a year. Just as an example, this one
in Australia costs $500 for a day.
You need to revise your ambitions or save a LOT more money.
