Andaulucia - itinerary - additional day(s) to spend?Hi All,
I am planning a trip to Andalucia in a rented car. We are interested in culture, nature and architecture - however we are not into spending days at museums. Our plan got affected by the availabilty of tickets to Alhambra - i.e. we have 2 extra days for the road trip.
Our original plan is:
day 1: Malaga arrive
day 2: pick-up car, Malaga >> Ronda >> Sevilla
day 3: Sevilla sightseeing
day 4: Sevilla sightseeing
day 5: Sevilla >> Cordoba, Cordoba sightseeing
day 6: Cordoba >> Granada, Granada sightseeing
day 7: Alhambra sighseeing
day 8: ??
day 9: ?? (tickets for Alhambra)
Our 'problem' is that we need to strech the plan so that it fits with our Alhambra tickets on day 9. Any suggestions? We have thought about spening an extra day in Sevilla and/or stopping by Antequera (Torcal Natural Park) or Zuheros on the way from Cordoba to Granada.
By the way we have book acocomodation for Sevilla on day 2. It is of course possible to cancel or postpone - but we would rather not change the reservation.
In the end of the trip (day 10 ...) we are planning to relax by the sea - so no need for 'sea-time' in this part of the oad-trip.

Welcome to TT!
You said you were interested in Nature but it doesn't seem you allocated much time to it in your itinerary. Therefore, you could spend an extra day in Ronda (to see some of the nature in its surroundings) and you could spend you other extra day visiting Sierra Nevada National Park so you can introduce some nature in your itinerary. Or, depending on your preferences, you could skip Sierra Nevada NP and spend that day wandering around part of the Alpujarras...
P.S.: Two days for Sevilla could be short although it'll depend on what do you want to make/visit there.

2Thanks! ;) 'Day 2' is actually Easter Sunday, so we are considering staying in Malaga to see the procession. I have read that the procession on Easter Sunday is not as impressive as other days during the Holy Week - but is it still worth seeing? Either way we are not able to make it to Sevilla to see the procesion on Sunday ... . :(
Sierra Nevada NP sounds good. After Granada we are headed west/south towards Alicante. Would you recommend a scenic route? Being that early in the hiking season we did not consider Sierra Nevada NP as an option - are you able to point out a good place to stop for a short day-hike?

3I like your idea of including Antequera--that is somewhere I have not been able to squeeze into my trips, but it looks fascinating.
Also, there is much in the way of hiking near Ronda--I think Ronda is always better as an overnight than just passing through. If you do not want to change your reservation in Sevilla, perhaps you could go from Cordoba to Ronda to Granada?
Since you'll be meandering with a car anyway, I am not paying much regard to the efficiency of that route. You could also do a scenic drive between Malaga and Sevilla and decide if there is somewhere you want to return for more time then.

That's pretty subjective. Have you seen an Easter procession in Spain before? Did you like it? Some people loves processions, others only like them, others don't bother, others don't like them at all...
After Granada we are headed west/south towards Alicante. Would you recommend a scenic route?
How much time do you have to go from Granada to Alicante?

6Once again - many thanks for all the suggestions - it is highly appreciated! ;)
@Veta: The scenic drive from Malaga to Sevilla is that the road through Ronda and Montecarto? I have also seen fantastic photos from Setenil de Las Bodegas, so I am trying to figure out the most scenic way from Malaga to Sevilla.
@anillos_de_saturno: No, I have never seen an Easter procession in Spain before, so I do not have any base for caparison. I have a feeling that it might not be my kind of thing - but not having seen one before I can not have an opinion. ;) Our flight from Alicante is on Day 15. The plan is to find a base for Day 10 - Day 15 - in a place, where not too much happens ... so we want to stay away from those 'concrete cities'. ;) We want to use this base to enjoy the weather and for day-trips and relaxation ... . ;) We have had trouble finding such a place west of Alicante - but we must have been looking the wrong places. We have found a couples of places not too far from Xabia ... .
@ericavisser: Sounds good - it's on our list! ;)

7day 2: pick-up car, Malaga >> Ronda >> Sevilla
This is too ambitious time-wise if you want to actually visit Ronda, as opposed to simply driving by.
You are already talking about a minimum of 4 hrs in the car, but then you have to navigate your way to your hotel in Seville afterwards.
Forget all about fitting in Setenil: it´s a slow, tortuous drive and you won´t have time. 40 min for the 12-mile drive from Ronda (yes, it really does take that long), plus time to find somewhere to park in Setenil, plus time to visit the village = a minimum of 2.5 hr, plus the time it takes to drive to the road to Seville - not easy to find the way.
I agree with Veta about Ronda (I live nearby). It is a waste to not spend at least one night there, or even two nights.
we are planning to relax by the sea - so no need for 'sea-time' in this part of the road-trip
Wait until you see the weather forecast before making any plans.April is still early spring, and this is definitely not the tropics. You can easily get 2 - 3 days of continuous rain.
The climax of Semana Santa is today. Good Friday. In our village nothing happens on Easter Sunday.

8Thanks fo the reply. Base on all the inputs we have modified our plans. They are now:
Day 1: Malaga >> Gaucin
Day 2: Gaucin >> Ronda >> Sevilla
Day 3: Sevilla
Day 4: Sevila
Day 5: Sevilla >> Cordoba
Day 6: Cordoba >> Colmenar
Day 7: Colmenar
Day 8: Colmenar >> Granada
Day 9: Granada
Day 10: Granada >>
Day 14: Flight home
Yes - based on your input it might sounds difficult to get to Setenil. Would any one be able to point me out to a region between Granada and Alicante - preferable nearby the coast (even though the weather might not be perfect) - which we could use as base for relaxation the last part of the trip. We want to book a house in a quite neighborhood (i.e. not a 'concrete city') - and just see what the days bring (e.g. day trip-wise).

9@wimipi (#8): Your itinerary isn't fully clear as you don't specific the exact time you'll be at each place. For exmaple, on day 6 do you plan to go to Colmenar early in the morning or at night? The same would apply at other days.
Your time in Ronda could be short but I guess it depends on what do you want to make there.
I don't know what type of coastal place are you looking for but you could take a look at some place in Cabo de Gata Natural Park to see if that's the type of place you are looking for. If you are looking for a bigger town, Águilas is coastal and can be a good point for daytrips.
