Qinghai - trip to the source of Yangtze RiverHello out there,
planing a trip to Qinghai, to be more precise, to the source of the Yangtze river. I mean the actual spring, the glaciers better said. Have been contacting a couple of agencies for I think this will be a rather off the beaten path trip, and got some info from them too.
Now here is my questions:
- Anybody done this lately and wants to share some experience?
- how about permits? I specially want to avoid TAR permit hassle, and since the source of Yangtze is really close to the Tibetan border, I wonder whether there might be problems. Interesting enough, some agency says "No, not needed", some say "Needed".
- anybody wants to come along? I am looking for travel partners for the last part of the trip, should be from Xining or Golmud, takes about a week with 4x drive to get closer and then hike!!! TRAVEL PARTNERS please PM me...
Thank you folks,
Ah, yes, I plan to go end of July 2013!!!

1So, seems like nobody has any advice?
I am now in Xining, talking with some travel agencies but get very strange and contradicting answers.
One question I have:
Is the road from Xining to Golmud to the border of Tibet open to foreigners all the way? I need to go close to the border of Tibet. Dont have permit for Tibet and dont want permit for Tibet.
Anybody know of some good, reliable travel agencies in Xining, that could organise such a trip?
