2 months in SE Asia - Indonesia +/- Thailand?Hi!
I'm a SWF, I have 2 months (April and May) to travel and decided to head for SE Asia. I love outdoor activities: trekking/hiking, swimming, snorkeling, watching wildlife, getting to know other cultures, the people, their customs and visiting a couple of odd monuments (not too many..just enough to get the feel of it).
I decided to head for Indonesia and make the best of that time. These days I'm beginning to have some doubts: should I split my holiday and see Indonesia and Thailand or should I stick to Indonesia since it does have an interesting variety of islands, activities and cultures to know?
Thanks for your help,

1Well, only you can know what would suit you....they are quite different countries. And you say nothing about your budget or style of travelling..and which places you would go to in each country..
One of the main differences is that April and May are hotter in Thailand, so if heat gets to you you might consider that. I personally would just do the whole 2 months in Indonesia, you could spend years here and not explore the whole country.
However, I have to say Thai food is fantastic...so if food is important to you...

2As above - Indonesia is so huge and diverse that 2 months wouldn't be too long to spend there.
The only case when I'd recommend splitting your time between the 2 countries is if you've never been to either AND are unlikely to be able to come back to visit Thailand another time. In that case, give it maybe 2 weeks - it's a very different country from Indonesia, and indeed the food is great.
If there's a chance you can return to SE Asia another time, leave Thailand for that trip - it's better to combine it with mainland SE countries (Cambodia, Laos, Burma etc) than with Indonesia anyway.

3there is certainly nothing wrong with spending two months in indonesia. it is a huge and diverse place to travel with a lot to see and do.
saying that, an alternative could be to spend a month in each country. you wont see everything in either, but will get a good taste of both and cover all the bases of what you want to see/do.
i agrre with lazlo, if you will come back to se asia at some point you could always visit thailand on a seperate trip and enjoy it fully?

4Like #1 and 2 say...2 months is not too long for Indonesia ...and you can do all that stuff you mentioned above.
I'd stay with your original plan and do Thailand on another trip.
Of course...you can always change your mind (I guess you are not booking everything in advance?)...if for whatever reason you don't like Indonesia (very difficult;-)....you will be able to pick up a cheap flight to Malaysia/Thailand easily enough.
