Up to date $ budget for Myanmar?

I and my girlfriend fly to Burma this Friday 22/3/13 and wondered how much we'll need in dollars per day for everything except hotels? We've booked all our hotels independently already and know the prices, and as we're going to get dollars before we fly it'd be good to know a rough estimate for 3 days Yangon, 3 days Bagan, 1 day kalaw then a 3 day trek (any recent recommended trekking guides also appreciated- there's a lot of conflicting info!), 3 days Inle and 1 day Mandalay. I'm guessing we'll eat at a restaurant once a day, some street food, the occassional massage, sights and souvenirs. Not decadent but not penny pinching either! Many thanks!

Figure $30 day without booze.

In Kalaw, I liked Mr Sams family operation for the trek, he supports the community and villages you visit. Have a meal there too, and 7 sisters,,,yum yum.

In Mandalay, I really enjoyed the beer gardens and bbq area, pick yoru own skewers with types of meat/veggies and spice and grab some beer and enjoy....

Yangon, ChinaTown for sure, and great Indian food there too. Lot of fancy places if you want to splurge.

Bagan there is some cool places, the Indian place with internet is great, and also a place on the river in a newly built colonial lounge and deck, rather swanky but great for sunset.

I paid about US$5 or $6 for the very average restuarant meal with a non-alcoholic drink, but enoyed the street food in Yangon. (In other places, I found the street food wasnt as prevalent or as good as in Yangon)

You can travel easy without $ in Burma today. All of your expenses can be paid in kyats. F.i. the entrance of the Shwedagon paya is your choice of 5 $ or 4500 kts. You can withdraw kyats at many ATM's, there are plenty of them now and at the airport. You will have a good rate for your sterling at an airport.
An uptown restaurant will set you back for 25.000 for two incl. drinks. In street restaurants with delicious food this will be around 10.000 (2.000 for a big bottle of beer)
Taxis in Yangon are mostly 2.000 per ride per taxi, in Mandalay and Bagan I paid between 7.000 and 20.000, not share. Share taxi is mostly 5.000 pp.
In febr mar this year I changed and used 500 € for 18 days two persons for food, taxis, Inle boat, taxi to Hsipaw and back to Mandalay, half day private car and horse in Bagan and entrances. It can be done much cheaper but we like some comfort.

I trekked with Ever Smile because they will do home stays instead of putting you up in the monastery with dozens of other trekkers like most of them do. Sam's also has a good reputation and I believe they do home stays too.

dont worry blondie, just get the fiorst GH to phone ahead to next destination each Gh they will have a list of Gh's at your next destination ,but our OP is two personas a bit easier as I noticed this year they charged double price even if just one person ie This year $8 -$15 (shared for this with people I met on the buses or even at reception of some GH's ie Yangon Garden $9 each and Beautyland2 $15 each B&B
Royal mandalay $10 B&B Gypsy queens and drum cheapest Inle lake from $8 B&B single
for basics see my FAQ86 & FAQ72
