mobile phone in Nica

Hi guys,
I'm off to Nicaragua in January and I would like to take a mobile phone for emergencys. I'm going to source a very cheap, very basic tri-band PAYG phone that I won't care if I lose it. Can anyone recommend a PAYG sim that would be suitable? Cheers,

There are two popular sims cards in Nicaragua. Claro and Moviestar. For about $5 you can purchase a Sims card when you arrive and most places will sell you minutes to go. I have a Claro sims because there are more Claro towers where I live. If you are traveling around Nicaragua either Claro or Moviestar will be fine. You will lose Claro minutes 2 weeks after purchasing, but Moviestar minutes are accumulated. Hope this helps.

I agree with the previous post. I did the same thing in Nicaragua, Panama, and the Dominican Republic. I have an unlocked quad band that works great for traveling.
