Itinery

Am hoping to visit CR next year and am already thinking about an itinery. We are interested in bird watching, wildlife, nature and geology( eg volcanos) not adrenaline sports.Any thoughts on this plan
3 nights Tortuguaro
2 / 3 nights Arenal area with day trip to Cana Negro
jeep boat jeep to Santa Elana reserve for 3 nights
Tourist bus to Alajuela to get flight to Palma Nova the taxi and boat to somewhere around Bahia drake for 4/5 night package at a lodge with day trips.
Back to Alajuela and if time a day trip to Poas and a coffee plantation.
Any comments or tips welcome
Thanks

What time of year? Rainy season varies greatly by region....

That is a good plan...enjoy.

nice itinerary. lucky you.

take a look here: http://costa-rica-guide.com/Weather/WeatherMap.html this will show you typical rainfall patterns at various times of the year so you can plan accordingly. with your itinerary - probably better to plan during the months of january through may. maybe june or even july - but no later than that.

possibly july or august which I know is the "green/rainy" season .we sort of thought rain later in the day wouldn't matter to us too much, as we are older travellers a siesta after early rise for bird watching etc would probably be welcome. Thanks for the feedback

you've got the right attitude! july would be a bit better if you could do that. august still ok for lots of areas. check the rainfall map and see for yourself.

if you are interested in birding, this is a great resource: http://www.costaricanbirdroute.com/sites.htm nice area, not touristy and great for birds. of course, there are many other areas of interest to birders but some might be too rainy to be productive.

An interesting itinerary. You should not be worried about too much rain, of course if the weather will be "normal". Expect showers after 4 pm in Arenal and Monteverde. It would be better to fly directly to Drake Bay instead of Palmar Norte.
