Kawthoung, and traveling north from there
Hey all,Two years back I went to Myanmar for 3 weeks, visiting all the highlights such as Yangon, Bagan area, Mandalay, and Inle Lake area. I fell in love with this great country and it's people and want to go back. Who has more information on the south of Myanmar (south of Myeik) and the possibillities of crossing the border from Thailand to Kawthoung by boat? I would love to visit that area, but i'm not sure where to begin... so i'm starting here! :)
Is it even possible to enter over there? All information is welcome! Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Peter.

Hi Peter, last yearly my family and i entered mynamar via kawthang and headed north over 10 days through islands to Myeik. We chartered the mergui princess for the journey but there is a daily ferry. The islands were fascinating as was myeik, we stayed there for 2 days and flew Yangon via short layover in Dawai. From what I can gather I've still not heard of any successful overland trip from kawthang to Yangon .2
OP and #1, check out a post made by SeaVisionBurma on the Myanmar section of Thaivisa.com. He details that there is a possibility of overland travel from Kawthoung to Yangon, starting soon. However, apparently it has just become possible to travel overland between Dawei and Thanbyuzayat south of Mawlamyaing (Moulmein), which was previously off limits. Between Kawthoung and Myeik and Dawei, I believe it is possible to use boats. Soon overland road travel all the way should be possible but right now some permits are required to enter at Kawthoung and proceed north via either boat or flight, at least to Dawei from where overland road or rail travel is possible - send this guy a message and he'll sort you out.ADVERTISEMENT
