Singles Beware Grand CircleBEWARE SINGLE TRAVELERS WITH GRAND CIRCLE.
I signed up to go to Cuba with Grand Circle in October, and made my final payment in December. A day or two later I received a call saying the trip had been cancelled. I was traveling with friends who checked that the trip was still on. I was then told that the Cuban Government had cancelled rooms and I was the last to sign up. I, and my friends, pointed out that actually they had signed up after me (in the same telephone call).
I was then told that Cuba had cancelled ‘single rooms’. Grand Circle said it would take 10 days or more to refund my money, although it had taken minutes to charge my credit card. I complained and did receive my refund within a week. Eventually I found another company tour to Cuba at the same time. In Havana I ran into my friends and was introduced to the TWO people who had taken my room when offered by Grand Circle very close to, if not the same day, as they cancelled me.

1Grand Circle should have picked up the tab for you since one aspect of running such a company should be smoothing over issues that crop up unexpectedly. That seems very unprofessional. Glad you went anyway. I guess this means the Cuban government is wanting to get the maximum amount from each hotel room? I have heard the hotels are overbooked due to the amount of US travelers.

5John, it appears that we do know. Though my partner and I don't do tours, and we don't travel as singles, out of curiosity, I goggled Grand Circle, and Bingo!: literally scores (in the old english sense of scores as groups of twenty. ;-0 ) of complaints, on several different independent travel sites, all to do with them taking bookings from singles, and then abusing them in a variety of ways.
Grand Circle appears to be notorious for this type of behavior

10Do you have the name/handle of this poster who is associated with that site? I'd like to ask them a question, thanks!
Dream_cuba – here is a similar website here with fotos with the poster information on the website and he would be more than happy to answer any of your Cuba travel questions. Happy travel in 2013
