How busy is April is it necessary to pre-book accommodation (guesthouse/hostel)?

No, after Easter it dies down to end May..

It may depend where your going and what kind of place you want to stay. Hostel, hotel, upscale hotel, etc.

Because travel has been off due to economy for some time once Easter week is out of the way you should not have a problem
