How can I book train ticket in India via internet?Hello,
I need your help.
How can I buy a train ticket in India on the internet? I tried to do it using Cleartrip.com, but it doesn't work. I registered, but was not able to provide indian mobile number, therefore could not finish the registration. As advised on the cleartrip, I provided my copy of passport, received the mobile -password by e-mail, but even with this password I could not complete the registration. Waste of time to be honest...
Is there any site I can book ticket? (I have visa and master card, but not an american express...)
Thanks for any help

3I disagree with booking through a tour agency - if you're not sure when you're travelling then why not wait and either book tourist quota or tatkal? If you really don't want to queue for tatkal, then there will plenty of people who will do it for you, for a small fee.
Where are you travelling from and to?

4Thank you for all for your kind help.
Well, we would like to travel from Varanasi to Agra either with the night train on 15th May, or 16th May.
Right now we have the flight ticket from Delhi to Kathmandu, and depending if I can book train ticket from VRN to AGR, we flight out from Kathmandu to Varanasi, spend 2-3 days there, and then by train (above mentioned) to Agra, If this option doesn't work, we flight back from KtM to Delhi, and skip VAranasi, what I do not would like to to be honest.
I just read on seat61, which allows unlimited travell by train within the given time-frame.
Does it mean if I buy one valid for 1 week, I can travell by train there and back without any pre-booking of seat needed?
We will need additional train-ticket, since we would like to take train then from agra to Jaipur, and from Jaipur to Delhi.

8You cannot buy a train ticket unless you have an Indian credit or debit card issued by an Indian bank. That what is stated in the official website, and I tried to buy when I was there 2 months ago, and wasn´t possible.
I give you the 2 website for trains, the second is the one to buy. If you have an Indian friend, then your friend will be able to pay it, and then pay him back, don´t know. I use to do that in India.
If you need more info about India, you can check my videoblog.

11the indian railway booking site is www.irctc.co.in but you can book only if you are and indian. However, most trains in india, especially those to popular tourist destinations have specially reserved seats/ births for foreign tourists. To book on this reserved seat you need to physically go to the booking station and book from the tourist counter

12Fortunately I was able to buy ticket online, with cleartrip. After several e-mail exchanges (either the username, or the password did not work) with the helpdesk, I got the right mobile and e-mail one time password, and was able to buy 3 different train tickets (and paid them with Visa) One of them (from Delhi to Varanasi) is a RAC, but I read on the seat61 site, I am allowed to board and travel with RAC ticket, so I hope there won't be any issue there.
