Cross-Canada meanderHello Everyone!
I'm going to be making the trip all the way from New Brunswick to Alberta in a few months and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a route. I've heard that making the dip through the US is a cost-effective and excellent sight-seeing way to go. Can someone provide me with any tips that way if that is the case? Also, suggested routes for the Trans-Canada route are welcome as well! I'm very open to all the options so any input, comments, suggestions, cautions etc... are welcome.
Thanks so much!

1Being a Canadian you should definitely drive the Trans-Canada at least once, just be a 'proud Canadian' & suck up the extra food/fuel/lodging costs. Personally I prefer the northern route on #11 from North Bay but you miss the Goose at Wawa that way.
If going to Cowtown stick with #1, if heading to Edmonton take the Yellow-head route through Saskatoon.

2Hi there! I'm making the reverse trip soon, as far as Newfoundland :) Mind if I piggyback off your post? I have found, so far, some good tips on the National Geographic website so have a look there. One tip I can give for Alberta is Drumheller and the Royal Tyrell museum. If you are staying in Calgary, you will have the chance to day trip there but if you are further away it is not to be missed on your meander!

3You're more than welcome to piggy-back!
Calgary is actually home, it's all the things in between that I'm looking to experience. I've been experiencing the East Coast for a number of years but I've never done the drive all the way home.
If you pick up any extra tips please feel free to pass them along on here! I'm leaning more towards the Trans-Canada route at this point so any advice or secrets are welcome! :)

4I'm definitely sticking to the Canadian route I reckon - I'm not a proud Canadian but I'm a proud resident! And I've always wanted to do this ultimate road trip (am cheating because have been all way west on several occasions already)!
I have half an idea of how I want to do it. I may sacrifice some of SK and MB, just because it's going to take me a really long time to get all the way! If I was going the other way, I think I'd spend more time here? I have the Cabot Trail and the Gaspe Peninsula in my mind, plus Niagara...just because I'd never make a dedicated trip there. It's a bit out of the way, but fancy the sound of Sault St Marie, Sudbury and Kingston so will do a few days between all of these. So I'm looking at something like this: Calgary > Brandon > Thunder Bay via Kenora > Sault St Marie > Sudbury > Kingston via Niagara Falls > Quebec City > Gaspe > Cheticamp > Sydney > St. John's. I know it's ambitious, but it's a start! I am consciously missing most cities, not sure if it's traffic, expense or the fact that I will likely be back to them.
