Comfortable accommodation in SR

I will be arriving in SR from the UK on 30th April.
I have provisionally booked a couple of nights in the Angkor Hotel (at 40USD per night) as I want a comfortable bed after the longhaul and don't want the hassle of finding somewhere on arrival. I know this price is high by Cambodia standards, and would really appreciate any recommended hotel/guest house/hostel that would be central, comfortable and reasonably priced.
I'm currently planning a 'loose' itinerary for my 3 weeks in Cambodia and as its been a number of years since backpacking in Asia and never before alone I'm sure I will be seeking plenty more advice and courage from other forum users before I depart. Many thanks in advance for your help

I stayed at Wooden Angkor a couple of weeks ago. Very comfortable, good AC, quiet, helpful staff and about 5 minutes walk from central Siem Reap. $30 for a superior twin room.

I always stay at the Two Dragons, nice clean place about $15 a night. Good food at ridiculously low prices.

Plus one of the owners, Gordon, lives here in Northern California, so if I have a bad time, I can theoretically drive over to his house and complain directly. (The other owner is on-site.)

Frangipani Villa 2 is decent hotel, it is clean and new. It might be a bit more expensive than hostels though but you might be able to call hotel if you want to have long stay there. It is very close to old market and easy to access to local shops and restaurants.

There are other places too like Soria Moria but not sure if they will take long stay because they are normally fully booked. You can also check around pub street, I have seen many small guesthouses by that area as well but it will be a bit noisy at night time.

I was quite happy with the Golden Temple Villa. Its more central to bars and restuarants than most others and well priced at $13-20 per night.

Excellent feedback - thanks so much! I plan on spending about 3 days in SR/Angkor Wat experiencing maybe 3 or 4 temples and the surrounding countryside before moving on. Maybe someone can advise on how best to spend 3 days in SR (apart from of course the temples!)?

Angkor Wonder. Close to the night market and only $6 for a twin room, not much to look at but is nice and comfortable, with a free drink on arrival from the most welcoming family I've met. I go here every time without question.

Here is what I did.

There is some huge cultural center, which I would only recommend to fans of jaw-dropping kitsch.

I really enjoyed the War Museum, but of the million or so visitors to SR every year, I was unique in that respect. Both times I went, I was the only person there, but it was awesome!

You can go to Cambodia Village, it's 30 or 40 mins from SR city center I think. Landmine Museum, Banteuy Srei and also national museum. You can check out article here,

http://www.hoteltrip.com/travelblogs/2013/03/10/learning-local-living-cambodia-village/

it said about the place which I find nice to know. Not many people go there to be honest because it is not commercial area of Siem Reap. You can really see how people live and work and eat.

Mickey

Shadow of Angkor. Rooms are clean and good. With Air-Con. 15$ for single. 20 for double.

3 days in SR: Try the temples around. The museums are good too. There is an artisan centre close where they make the sculptures and other bits of artisty products. That was good.
PS: If you want to do justice to the temples though, you will need about 3 days. :)
