Birding in Africa, Best country for...I've just heard about what seems to be a reasonably priced and productive birding trip to The Gambia, but this started me thinking about whether it would be the best choice of African countries for seeing most/best birds. Or, if others are better, what is the best place for birding in Africa?
X-posted in the Africa branch a couple of days ago. I've received some good responses, but realized that members on this branch might elicit a few more, and members on this branch might want to look at other thread as well.

1You'd probably see more in Kenya/Tanzania/Ethiopia but the Gambia is a good choice, especially if you don't have more than a week or two. More info here

2It also depends on what month of the year you are birding. I went on a safari in the Serengeti in March, about one week after the first rains, and saw the start of the wildebeest migration, which drew in all of the major mammals and birds. Sometimes it is pure luck trying to gauge when it will rain.

Tanzania is my favourite place for birding but recently I have been to Sierra Leone (on a work trip) and did some birding there. I was very pleasantly surprised.
Given that I am going back to SL in a few weeks, I was thinking about going to Gambia for birding while I was in the area.
So I am going to need to look for a good tour provider.
Would you be kind enough to give me any info on the reasonably price birding trip you found?
I know my post is a little late but thank you so much if you can help!

6Hi EA, the trip I am taking is through the Montana Audubon Society. While I think it is filled, wouldn't hurt to google them up and find out if there are still any spaces, or you never know if someone has to back out before departure.. In any case, you can take a look at the itinerary and the previous trip report. The trip leaves from London on December 3rd, returns on December 17th.
