Looking to Safari in Africa.Hello all,
I'm planning a trip to southern Africa in November 2013. A friend and I are going to celebrate our 40th birthdays. It's something we've both wanted to do, definitely on the bucket list.
After reading some blogs, I've realized that most of the companies that book safaris are not the company that actually provide the services and the safari itself.
Does anyone recommend a tour company that isn't the 'middle' man but had a great feel to them. We're not looking for luxury as most sites offer. I'd rather get with a good group where every one helps out and keeps the cost down a bit.
Any recommendations would be appreciated!

2We did a safari with Jenman Safaris in 2008 and had a wonderful experience. We did Zambia and Botswana but they are based in South Africa and operate through out the region. We did a mixed camping and lodge private safari but they do all kinds. Their equipment was first-rate and our guide (Chauntel) was very-very good. They have a good web site that is easy to use and if you contact the South Africa office I'm sure you will get a prompt response.
We are returning for a September safari to South Africa and Zimbabwe and will be using Bush Whisper Safaris. Our planning experience has been very good with them but we have not yet been "in the bush".

3I'm not sure where we will end up going. I would like to experience safaris that are run locally and are the 'responsible travel' type. There is so much to see. I'm hoping to find a company, or several, and voyage around southern Africa. Maybe try privately run and some national parks as well to experience the difference between the two.
