travel agencies san pedro la laguna
i already posted a warning concerning one particular travel agency in san pedro la laguna but apparently my post didn't pass the control mechanisms of the forum... i will therefore post the same warning in a more general way: before you book a trip (in our case to san cristobal de las casas) with any travel agency in san pedro you should ask around if they are trustworthy - otherwise you end up like us waiting for a shuttle that never shows up (in panajachel at seven in the morning) and you'll have to pay a second time (we took the next shuttle which was from another company, so of course we had to pay a second time. a girl on the bus told us that this kind of stuff happens several times a week with that special agency, she has had the same problem but as she was spending more time in san pedro she was able to get her money back from the owner after some shouting and screaming in the street...)1
So you dont know what agency made the error supposedly ripped you off? Maybe the shuttle was late, maybe you were late, maybe there was a issue with shuttle? You then dont mention what shuttle you took, or who to book it from/thru?I knows its bummer, but try to help others either avoid one place, or suggest a place to use, as this post is just a story, of a missed shuttle? Did you call the agency for an explanation?

i posted the name of the agency in my original post which apparently was not accepted by the forum admins (as mentioned above...), so i didn't mention the name in my second post and my post got through... and no, we didn't miss the shuttle, we took the first boat from san pedro to pana at six in the morning. the guy from the other company and a girl on the bus who had been spending a longer time in san pedro both told us that it happens several times a week with that particular company. the girl also told us that she once got her money back by the agency after shouting at the company owner for some time in front of his clients. we would probably have done the same thing but didn't have the time as we had to travel to mexico and then back to europe3
I try never to pay anything in advance but just if possible make a reservation and then pay the shuttle driver when he arrives for the trip. It is a shame that you could not post the name of this outfit as that would have been of assistance to other travelers. Also it is always a good thing to buy tickets just stop to stop in Mexico and in /Guatemala. If you buy thru tickets you may be refused as you change buses or shuttles.5
@5: we went to pana with the first boat cause that was the "package" offered by the agency - take the 6 am boat to pana (which we had to pay seperately to the guy on the boat) and then the shuttle would be waiting for us at the dock in pana. waited for one hour, but no shuttle. then after the explanation of the girl from chile it all made sense. she told us that the guy who ownes the company is well known for being a crook amongst the locals so i guess by asking around it should not be difficult to find out who's the "black sheep". maybe by doing so before we would have saved 200 quetzales as well but anyway...13
Regardless of what the "girl from chile" said, both of those are considered "reputable" in San Pedro... and Casa Verde has shuttles going to Antigua without crossing the lake, unless it's canceling them due to low demand. So you called them from Pana while waiting for that first one which never arrived... and they said you're on your own?
