Holy Week (24-30 March) - Where to go?
We just realised that we will be in PI during Holy Week, with a week on either side, and are trying to lay out an itinerary. Because it is a domestic travel week, we want to book in advance, so we are not stranded. We want to divide the 24-day stay into 3 regions to not spend too much time in transit:1. Manila Metro / Laguna / Tagaytay
2. A beach destination (short list: Bantayan, Coron, Puerto Galera, OR Camarines Sur?) with good food, swimming, kayaking, low-key nightlife, interesting culture - we are NOT divers though. We are less interested in Boracay.
3. A cultural/ architectural destination (short list: Vigan OR Cordilleras) or maybe just explore Bicol
Would it be better to pick a beach (from above) and 'hunker down' for the whole week, or spend that week in the quieter Manila/Laguna area (even though places might be closed). If beach, which of these beaches offers enough 'to do' activities for a whole week, so that we do not get bored?
Flying is an option for us, but ferries would be fun too.
Salamat!

some thoughts...I would not bother with Puerto Galera if your not divers, it kind of trashy really, an extension of the Manila bar scene. Bantayon could be good, I like it there a lot, the one thing it does not offer is diving which your not looking for anyway. Another destination along those lines is Sugar beach on Negros, both are quiet laid back with real comfortable atmosphere. You could look at southern Cebu as a cultural destination. There is a string of Spanish era churches, guard towers and various things in towns like Oslob, Boijoon, Alcoy and Dalaguete along the coast. Its quite pretty through there. In terms of Holy week, its important to be somewhere going into the end of the week as opposed to worrying about the entire week. You do not want to be trying to travel Sunday everything shuts down but other than that you could change locations.2
Thank you for the helpful replies! It sounds like Visayas is the direction to go.
