Hiking boots versus shoes for Cappadocia, Mt Nemrut etc
Would a good pair of goretex trainers be sufficent for day hikes in Cappadocia and for visiting Mt Nemrut or would you recommend hiking boots? The day hikes we will be doing won't be too strenuous as we like to spend time appreciating the scenery/taking pictures rather than covering a lot fo distance. We will be visiting Mt Nemrut early May so I hope the snow will have melted by then?I currently have a few years old pair of North Face hedgehog trainers (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005GZ1EUY/?tag=hydra0b-21&hvadid=11070059885&ref=asc_df_B005GZ1EUY) while my husband has a pair of Karrimor walking shoes without Goretex and we are wondering whether to buy new shoes before travelling to Turkey?

For my first two long visits to Turkey, I packed my hiking boots. Never needed them and I no longer bother to take them. We've done lots of walking and moderate hiking--enough that I wear out the tread on a pair of Birkenstock sandals with each visit and have had to have my good Mephisto walking shoes re-soled! And yes, by May the snow will almost certainly be gone from Nemrut Dağı.Edited by: swampeastmike

No need for boots to hike in Goreme. I actually went around in sandals.http://www.flickr.com/photos/youngadventure/sets/72157620754843776/
