Uganda,gorillas,permits..the usual..

Hello, I'm just trying to arrange a trip to the bwindi park to see gorillas, taking advantage of the cheaper permit prices In april\ may.

I think I'm going to go from Kigali over the border to Kisoro and do it from there. Does anyone know any good tour companies operating from there.

I'm a bit confused about permits, I'd like to sort one out as soon as possible, does this mean booking through an operator as soon as, or can I just get myself a permit whilstmin the uk and sort the rest out later.or can I just turn up in Kisoro and sort it out then

Solo traveller, uk passport
Thanks.

Crossing from Kigali to Kisoro is easy with a change of bus in Muzanse for the border.

From what I understand you will need to book the permit in advance but I am sorry that I can not recommend an operator in Kisoro or surronding area. If no one comes up with anything have a trawl through previous posts

You can book the gorilla permit directly with Uganda wild life authority -UWA and if you fail then you can contact any local Tour Company that has been reviewed here. You can purchase the permit through them and do the Tour on your own. Otherwise any Tour Company in Uganda can run Tours from Kisoro to any part of the country.

Ask for Gorilla families in southern Bwindi in Kisoro . Groups include Nkuringo, Kahungye, Nshongi and Mishaya families.

hello, thanks fro the reply,

ive tried looking on the ugandan wildlife services website, but i cannot find a way to book gorilla permits! just the price and an @info email address, and a link to a list of tour operators. im guessing they would rather you use a your operator outright, but i do not know exactly when i will arrive in bwindi as i will be travelling overland.

hmmm

this looks helpfull but a bit out of date.

i guess the idea is to plan exactly when your are coming by which dates you can get a permit for! makes sense.

First, come up with your travel dates, then call UWA. E-mailing them may delay your booking as they take long to reply to e-mails.
My advise to you is to use a Tour Operator that is a member of AUTO.

Just book your permit (calling UWA or tour operator member of AUTO), go to Kisoro (explained before), then arrange a car to Bwindi and back (should cost you around 100,000 UGX) and go see the gorilla's.
Only use a tour company to arrange your permit, not to go to the gorilla's. Easily done on your own.
Tour companies you can search for on the internet and mail them. Pay no more than $50 for their efforts.
In low season or if you're very flexible you can take the chance to arrange a permit in Uganda (Kampala or Kisoro).

And of course, first choose a gorilla family which you want to visit in their home.
Good luck and enjoy the gorilla's.
