UK pair seeking 3+ for Tibet early/mid August from Cina through to Nepal
Two British women seeking at least three more British passport holders to make a trip to Tibet.Fairly flexible as we are super keen. Roughly the plan is:
-travel by train into Lhasa from mainland China between 1st-15th August. Hard seat $23, hard sleeper $60 from Golmus in Qinghai province to Lhasa 14hour trip for example.
-stay in Lhasa for around a week, getting the required guides locally as needed (I understand a guide is not required in Lhasa itself)
-hire a guide and car to make a trip to the Nepal border (this takes two days so we could stop on the way - this would potentially require additional permits) 250 kuai per day for the guide $100 per day for the car (totally rough prices and that is for the group not per person)
-walk across the boarder where we will all be free to travel with whoever we like and not tell China anything that we do!
So in advance we would need to book the train, the accommodation in Lhasa, the guide and car to the border, any stops we make from Lhasa to the border and the Nepalese visa. We, as a group of five or more people of the same nationality, could then apply for the Tibet Tourism Board permit through an agency and any extra permits for other areas we decide to stop en route to Nepal.
Seems a bit of a shot in the dark that anyone will fancy doing the same on such a restricted budget (cheap hotels and dorms all the way for us I'm afraid) but please do get in touch if that sounds like it could fit with your plans and we can try and get it to work with the mad bureaucracy.

Hi,This is very similar to a tour I am planning at the start of August and I'm also looking for travelling companions. Apart from staying in Lhasa and travelling to the Nepal border, I also want to visit Everest Base Camp and pass through Shigatse, Tibet's second city. Dates-wise, I'm thinking of starting the trip on 1st August. As far as I know you need to arrange your tour before entering the TAR otherwise you don't get given a permit even to visit Lhasa. I've contacted a couple of agents and they have given me quotes for the entire trip above (11 days or so). For 3+ people it comes out at about £400-500 per person for the entire trip. Would you be interested?
Best,
Nico
