Vancouver to Anchorage late April/early May

Hello!

Im currently living near Vancouver and find I will have afew weeks up my sleave from april the 23rd to May the 16th, and would really love to go up and see Alaska and the Yukon!

I just want to know if theres anybody else out there that has done this trip (driving the Alaska Highway) at around the same time of year and if you have any tips about the driving conditions, accomodation, any suggestions on what to see and not see and what to do and not do!!?

Also any help or ideas about ferries WITHIN Alaska itself, just a bit of a hop around to have a looksi, NOT A CRUISE, just a way to go about and check out the isolated towns amongst the islands etc...
