#18 and #19 are obviously other "versions" of the the OP. This is definitely a troubled and developing thread! It has its problems alright...

Nice blog, but some inaccuracies. The issue between BZ and Guate is more of a political one between the two govts and not the people. War is not in cards and we'll either both go to the ICJ or not and life will continue as it has for yrs. If there was a war, I would not put my money on the Brits to intervene. Ashcroft will do fine no matter what, he does not need the UK govt to help his biz endeavors. Last yr we had about 400 plus murders, mostly gang and drug related and nearly all in Belize City. You can more easily compare the murder rate in MX to the death toll in Afghanistan, but certainly not to Belize. Many different groups of Mennonites and the largest and most productive drive cars, make their own phone calls, have electric in their homes, and have a elected official in office. The drug issue is not of our making, but only supplies the demand from NA and Europe. We are a transit point between SA and end market. Therefore the police checks for drug in your luggage. I agree guides should not change animal behavior and feed the fish, but they do it to please visitors. Belize is a developing nation with basic medical, enough food and social security. At times we underestimate the local consumption of things like sugar, corn, etc, but its not for lack of abundance of these items. Sorry you were disappointed; Belize is not for everyone, but for those who do love what we have to offer, many become return visitors
