Transit between Don Mueng and Suvarnabhumi Airports

Hey there,

I will be visiting Thailand and Vietnam over the summer. My AirAsia flight lands at Don Mueng airport at around 3 AM and I will taking the 15.00 Lufthansa flight to Ho Chi Minh City from Suvarnabhumi airport. Can anybody tell me about the shuttle bus between the airports and any place to store luggage safely for a few hours so that I can explore Bangkok before leaving?

Thanks

There are two left luggage counters at Suvarnabhumi, in arrivals (level 2) and in departures (level 4). Cost was THB 100 per piece per day last time I was there. You could leave your stuff there and take the airport link into Bangkok to explore for a few hours.

Free shuttle bus runs only from 0600 to 2200. For your arrival time, you take a taxi between the two, or you wait until 0600. There MAY be a 554 or 555 public bus from outside the DMK terminal out on the main road.

Taxi is best if you want to transit quickly at that time of day.

Both airports have reliable and inexpensive left-luggage offices, but that would mean unnecessarily shuttling between the two airports.

You might consider the (even cheaper) left-luggage office at Hualamphong train station. Take a cab from DMK to the station, leave your bags, go have fun; around noon, go back to the station, get your bags, and take the train to BKK.

Or you can take the train from the airport to Hualamphong, leave luggage, have fun,go back to the station ,take a shower, take underground to Petchaburi station,go to Makhasan station and take city line train to airport.

#3 malvolio I know what you meant but but #4 is right the train does not go from Hualamphong to BKK

they can also catch the number 29 bus outside the airport to Hualamphong if there is a long wait for the train (check the expected arrival time not the scheduled arrival time!)

Is it safe to store luggage at Hualamphong? From what I've read so far, there are no luggage lockers as such.

@6. You're right, but it is a large shelved room with a check in /ticket facility and someone on duty all the time. I know of lots of people who have used that facility but I don't know of anyone who had security problems.

In Thailand there are not luggage lockers,AFAIK,just shelved rooms attended by personnel.Dont leave on them nothing of value...money,passport,cameras...etc.

I can not remember but they might insist your luggage is padlocked which can be a problem with rucksacks

As above do not leave valuables but I would think it is as safe as anywhere
