Southern China and Norther MyanmarHi
Could you please advise how can i arrange the travel through Kunming South of China that cross over to the northern region of Myanmar through Ledo road, what are the formalities with border crossing is it permitted? Can any one help me with a tour operator in Kunming or Myanmar who cam assist with tour arrangements.

1The consensus around seems to be that it isn't possible for a Westerner to cross from China to Myanmar overland -- or at least that it would be very complicated.
Still, it would be an adventure to try.

2Basically foreigners can not cross land borders into Myanmar- where you can cross, you would still need need to take a inland flight, you can keep going overland due to security/military issues.
You can cross from south of Kumning to Ruli and on to Lashio, but, you need to get a special permit, and also hire a guide, which will escort you across border (get Visa prior) and all the way to Lashio, at this pint foreigners are free to travel un escorted, usually via taxi share to Hsipaw, and then onward to Mandalay.
In the end, its cheaper to just fly from Kunming or Changmai to Myanmar, in the end, the easiest is to fly from BKK to Yangon.
