Merida

Watched a couple of videos on Merida...and decided should take a look....after walking around the plaza....am wondering, once again, what is the big deal.....
That is the thing about travel videos...one never knows...
It was a fluke but went to Puerto Escondido...and it turned out to be better than I thought...

go figure....

On a weekend Merida is alive with free entertainment and activities. The city is also a great place to stay to visit the Puuc region, Celestun, Progresso, and ohter historic cities nearby.

Perfect example of different strokes for different gente. Puerto happens to be one of the few places I'd call "disappointing," mostly due to high expectations. Social activity on various Mexican zocalos is thrilling for some but same-old for others... best to focus on the stuff you love and chase it, plenty to do along the PE cost.

I found Merida rather dull and soulless during the day but it does come alive at night. The heat has a lot to do with it. It IS different to most Mexican cities - more akin to a South American or Caribbean city than a Mexican one.

Merida is a wonderful colonial city. You need to know its history to really love it. It has lots to see and to do. Photos wolfcalls.com. The more you know of its history the more you will wnjoy this city/

Go figure is right. PE is like a CA surfer town, unless you are into the waves its terribly boring and racist against their host mexicans and monotone.

Merida is a fascinating historic city. Maybe you should crack a book or 2 before venturing out, unless you only want flip-flops and San Diego surfer guys etc.

I enjoy Merida much. One of my favorite places. If you only saw the main square, you missed.
PE would bore me in short time.
