Travel companion Ecuador in SeptemberHi everyone,
I am looking into my summer holidays. I plan to put them in September to avoid tourist season (and high prices).
I have a few ideas of what I would like to see but it is still at the early sketch level.
So far I am traveling alone. If there is someone traveling at the same time and is looking for a travel buddy let me know. The trip should be rather active, low key accommodations.
If you have tips for solo travelers (how not to make it too expensive) let me know too :)

I've been traveling now through Ecuador for a weeks by myself. During the day it's pretty safe, also bus trips are no problem at all, as long as you don't wear your nicest gold and silver accessories and keep your backpack near you.
For solo travelers I'd recommend doing a lot of day trips, there you'll meet a lot of backpackers/ travelers with the same interests you have.
I'm staying in Quito right now and I've done some day trips with a really good tour operator (Gulliver Expeditions : http://gulliver.com.ec ) the guides are all very friendly and professional, and if your spanish is not on the top level, english is for most of the guides no problem at all. There's also an amazing hostel, where you can do most of the trips from (Papa Gayo).
so I hope you'll enjoy your trip, as Ecuador is a truly amazing and beautiful country to travel.

4Hi, it's been a few months since your original post, so I'm not sure if you're still thinking about SA. I'm landing in Lima (Peru) on Sept 3rd, treking Maccu Picchu (sp?) until the 10th, then overland to La Paz (Bolivia) via Titicaca. Then about the 13th will fly to Quito for a few days, then Galap. Islands for a few days before jungle lodge in Iquitos and then a boat down river for about the end of the month. If some of that founds fun, I'd be glad of the company :-)
If you're going later, then my later is Brazil, Venezuela, Guyana and back to Brazil in October. Cheers, Joe

5Hi Joe and fairyprincesscatcher (quite a name),
thanks for the posts.
I am in Ecuador all September. I am still working on what I want to see, but there will definitely be some time on the Galapagos islands.
I am thinking for some trekking, rafting, combined with some visit to smaller towns. I am not sure I'll go to the Southern part.
Let me know if any of this fits with your plans. And what do you plan to do on Galapagos.

11Corn tamales etc are sold everywhere but if you eat in local places you will have to ask with set meals without meat or fish but you could get rice and beans in most places I think... and there are a few vegetarian places around and I am assuming you are a vegetarian and not vegan?
There is a Hare Krishna place in the old town part of Quito which serves cheap rather nice vegetarian food but I can't remember the name of the street - could be Esmeraldas and between Vargas and Venezuela I think.
Also there are many cheap chinese restaurants that sell cheap vegetarian food even though they aren't really authentic tasting....
