Thanks for this, does anyone have any recommendations on where would be a good place to spend an extra night on the coast? Would Santa Barbara be any good?

Thanks so much for the responses. We have decided to just spend 3 nights in LA and will stay a night in Santa Barbara and then head to either Monterey or Cambria.

We're now looking to book hotels, we're looking at 2 nights in Las Vegas and just wondered if anyone had any hotel suggestions? Unfortunately the way our route works means we'll be there Friday/Sat night so bumps up the hotel costs. Our budget is around £80 per night. What I'm wondering is if it's worth paying extra to stay on the strip? We're not big party people, we're hoping to get tickets to a show in Vegas and spend a little time in the casinos, would we be better saving a bit of money and staying off strip? I assume this is very much a personal preference but any opinions would be gratefully received!

Yes, it's best to stay on the strip so you can walk everywhere easily. The strip has crazy traffic on the weekends.

It sounds like you're coming to Vegas Oct 18/19. Based on current rates, your best option is Best Western Plus at around $85 plus taxes. Slightly more central are Flamingo or Bally's right in the middle of the strip. They're showing rates of about $112/night right now plus taxes.

Thanks for the replies. Flamingo looks like it would suit our needs, it has mixed reviews on Trip Advisor but it's in our budget and the only bad reviews seem to be about decor and I don't plan on spending too much time in the room assessing the wallpaper so I think we'll probably go with that one. Thanks again.

Hi everyone, our return flight from San Francisco has been changed, instead of departing at 10am we will now depart at 14.55, which means we have a little more flexibility for our last night. I was wondering what people would recommend about where to stay overnight on our trip up the coast, we have 3 nights from leaving LA to get back up to the airport, we had originally planned a night in Santa Barbara, a night in Cambria and then the last night back in SF, ideally we'd like to stay somewhere on the last night outside of SF, but not really more than 1.5-2 hours away from the airport, any suggestions?

Monterey, Carmel, Santa Cruz or Half Moon Bay, from south to north.
