ATMs in Costa Rica

I have read that ATM's can give either Colones or Dollars. Is this true? Also, do they charge extra fees for cards from US banks?

Yes, many dispense your choice of currency. Charges depend on your bank...many have some sort of withdrawal fee.

There is a minimal charge at CR banks, it is YOUR Bank that charges you for NON Network Fees and Foreign Transactions Fees. Some can be $6 per transaction for Non Network and 4%-18% Foreign Transactions fees, so do your homework. I have a flat Non Network fee of $2 and no Foreign Transactions fee Debit Card.

USA Banks can be a huge rip off. Chase, BOA & Citi are all $$$.
