2Forget it, with 4 days you get there and have to turn around next day and come back.
Just to get from San Jose to Managua for a flight to CI, will take you 9-11 hours. Check Tica Bus or King Quality for bus times between SJ and Managua, its 6 hours to border, 1 to 3 hours to cross, and 2 hours to Managua.
Going via surface you could not even do the bus/boat option as you dont have enough time...
Also the border is nuts, and busses, as you approach Easter Week/Semanta Santa...

6umm - departure tax from costa rica is actually $29 now. it was $28 (for several years) and then $1 got added for a fund to combat human trafficking.
round trip airfare on nature air from sjo to managua is $311. from liberia to managua is a bit less, depending on the date. nature air also has "loco fares" from time to time that are much cheaper.

7Not sure you can even connect in MGA in the same day as well, for flights to CI and vice verse on return...
You can do it on the way from San José to Corn Island but not on the way back. Well, COPA has a flight scheduled to depart from Managua to San José de Costa Rica roughly an hour after the scheduled arrival to Managua of the flight from Corn Island but I don't think that's an option.

8I can never remember the departure tax as its a always odd amounts..
Is that Nature Air daily flights to and from? I se its early AM from SJ-Pavas, does it stop in Liberia?
