Where best to change money in Pakistan?I'm on a month long climbing trip to the Karakoram during June/July. Trying to waste a little time as possible in Islamabad with admin so trying to work out where best to quickly change money. I have the following options:
Karachi or Islamabad Airports If the former, then would need to be in the transfer area as we are connecting to Islamabad. I remember on my last visit in 2009 the rates at Islamabad Airport were pretty good?
Blue Area, Islamabad - This has always been reliable in the past for me. Our flight lands at 17.45 on a Saturday eve, and I am keen to leave by flight or minivan for Gilgit early next morning. I don't really want to lose a day waiting for the money changers in the Blue Area to open. Is there anywhere that would be open late on a Sat night with good rates?? Else do any Hotels, or anybody else offer a good rate out of banking hours?
Gilgit - I remember the rates have always being lower here vs Islamabad so not keen to change money here unless someone can confirm rates are now the same?
What is best currency to carry these days? Will £ Sterling be ok or am I limiting my options and better of with US$?
Any help gratefully appreciated.

4At Islamabad airport you'll pay an 'airport tax' at the exchange office that amounts to about 3% of the total.
Where are you staying on Saturday night? You might find an exchange office nearby in Pindi, rather than journey all the way to Isloo if you plan to fly out the next day. Otherwise, there's a good chance you'll find a few exchange offices open in the Blue Area until 8.00 or perhaps 9.00, but the later it gets the fewer choices you'll have.
