Hotel in Glasgow - hiking trip in highlands

I will be in Glasgow in mid-may, I need to find a hotel not too far from the Scottish Exhibition Conference Centre, but still want to be in the city centre to enjoy some entertainment. Would anyone recommend a place in particular?

Also want to finish my trip in a hostel to go hiking in the highlands. If you know anything for a 4 day stay in the highlands it would be appreciated.

Thanks guys!

Hi,

If you are just looking to go out at night, don't discount staying at one of the on site hotels and heading up to the Argyle Street area, which has a lot of bars and restaurants on it or nearby, e.g. http://www.yelp.co.uk/list/bars-on-argyle-street-glasgow (all except no. 9 on the list are west of the junction with Finnieston Street). There is also a cluster of small hotels near the Sauchiehall Street / Kelvingrove Street junction.

If you want to be in the city, consider somewhere near Anderston or Central stations, as you can take the train to Exhibition Centre station. Most of the hotels in this area are chains (e.g. Indigo, Jury's Inn), though there are some smaller hotels about. I don't have a personal recommendation, sorry.

HTH
