Jakarta til Gili Islands

Sorry to bother you again. But do anybody know the best way to go from Jakarta to Gili Islands?

Fly Jakarta to LOP - road transport to Bangsal 2.5 hours then public boat to Gilis 20/40minutes depending on which island.

Or fly Jakarta to Bali on Air Asia then hop a taxi to Padang Bai and a boat to Gili T. Similar time frames for both options. Many boat operators will pick you up from Kuta/Sanur area. Check out http://www.oceanstarexpress.com/

Prices were 250,000 one way in October 2012. Their website prices are way over market value so negotiate!

Boats don't operate during inclement weather, so during the wet season (November to April), air/land transport is more reliable.

I agree that flying to Lombok would be the best option for this time of year.

More generally, here is a comparison of boats/flights between Bali and Lombok.

I would also go via Lombok. I took the fast boat from Sanur to Gili Trawangan and it took me half the day to finally arrive.

Boats have been cancelled recently between Bali and Gilis and even between Lombok and Gilis. Same thing happened this time last year. I would fly Feb/March for sure.

Lion air flights are cancelled at short notice. I (or my sister) have been affected on a few trips where Lion Air cancelled the morning or midday flight ex Lombok and put passengers on later flights. Both ways i.e. from Bali to Lombok and vice versa can be cancelled or delayed. No guarantees if you fly or go by boat.

Try Bluewater Express fast boat. They run 3 times in a day, so you won't miss your chances to go to Gili. Here is their site, www.bluewater-express.com
