quick Rwanda visit

I'll be heading into Rwanda from Unganda in a few days and will have about 3 to 5 days depending on when I go. Having seen Gorillas, Chimps, and Golden Monkeys in Uganda where it is cheaper I'm not interested in doing any of those things. But is there any destination where I could go for a day or two that would be cheap and give me a flavor of the local culture and scenery. Or am I best off just hanging out in Kigali for a few days and staying in Uganda a couple days longer.

Assuming you are crossing from Kisoro then you could stop off either in Musanze and explore the area or go a bit further to Lake Kivu and stay at Rubona (near Gisenyi) really depends on what flots your boat

rwanda is a beautiful counrty and well work exploring

Well you can experience the local culture at Iby’lwacu cultural village in Musanze in Rwanda. It is a wonderful, interactive experience, learning all about Rwandan traditions, culture, song and dance. You can participate in local dances, drumming, shooting arrows, attending a traditional healer's medicine show and visit the local schools.

In Uganda, you can go to Mgahinga national park or Bwindi national park and Bunyonyi overland to see the pygimies

Hamidah's advice sounds great. But if you want something more chilled out you're also welcome to visit Karengera in the Western province. It's about a 30 minute walk from Lake Kivu from which you can do a day trip to one of the islands. The school I'm volunteering at has accommodation.
