paris - shiraz by car with 5 kids

Hello
we like to go to Iran by camping car with our 5 kids next summer. Did anybody used the road through Turkey ? Which one you can recommend ? We would like to spend 1 month in Iran and visit some 2-3 places in Turkey on the road ( we have only 2 month summer holiday). In Iran we like to visit Qom, Esfahan, Shiraz, Yazd and all places on the road. The kids would like go till Bam and Mashad but I don't know the road condition there and it is quite far.
What is about the wheather in july/ august ? We have been in Central Asia last year, till 43 degrees. It is similar ?
Is there any problem to sleep in the car in cities or on the road ? Do Iranians accept when kids are drinking during ramadan ? We will not eat in public places but the kids must drink all the day.
Thank you for help.

You'll need a Carnet de Passage to enter Iran. Please mind the costs and the deposit you have to pay for the carnet!

In May 2011 we have made "bush camping" everywhere in Iran without any problem.
But in cities we have choosed to spend the nights in hotel, more practical (and not so easy to find a place for sleeping in our vehicle).

Hullo kolla, we are also hoping to be traveling through Turkey to Iran in July August this year. We are driving from London. We will be in our old Land Rover and camping where we can. When I asked two lots of people in Iran they said it was not a good idea to camp. The hotels they suggested were Not expensive at all. If we find we can camp we shall do that. The weather will be very hot then according people on LP, but good as it is a dry heat. It would be wonderful if we could stay In touch and meet along the way. We shall be looking at our Turkey Route , but we camped through Turkey before and this is great, roads are good, people wonderful! We shall drive to Van and cross at that border. Sadly Private Massages are no longer allowed, but if you go to ' backsberg' on the Internet you could try and be in touch with us, with looking for Michael. Lets keep talking on this forum though. We also used to camp with our kids as it was affordable and wonderful!! Hope to stay in touch.

Hi Jilback,

I've forgotten to say that we have travelled through Iran in 2011 (spring) with a Land Rover with camping equipment anf roof tent: we sleeped in the car.
About wheather, don't forget that there is a lot of high mountains in Iran (more than 4000m high) and, in these areas, summer temperature will be OK.
Also, this not "dry heat" in Susa (Shush) area (not comfortable even in May at Choka Zambil!), but, yes, dry heat around Chiraz,Kerman,Yazd,...

Hi Jillback and Roro
how about roads in Iran ? Are they good everywhere ? Is there a good road from Bam to Mashad ? Is there any shortage of (good quality) gasoil ?
How is it to cross turkish Kurdistan in terms of safety ? In 1995 we were advised not to go there at all and cross the border in Bazargan.
Let's keep in touch.

I think the weather will be very very hot!
It depends how you can cope with temperature higher than 40°C (in the shade, and there is not a lot of shade, unfortunateley) everyday.
But it's dry heat and if you can stop between 12h and 16h in the shade it will be OK.

Hi, Iran is hot abd in the north also very humid, which is hard to breath. Bam is really far a away. Mysedl, I did just to Esfahan and then back to Turkey. Anyway there are many beautiful places even if you do not make it up to Bam. Enjoy it!
