Flying with AirAsia from Colombo?
Hello,On our trip trough Asia next year we were planning on flying from Colombo to Yangon (Myanmar) with AirAsia (Colombo – Kuala Lumpur & Kuala Lumpur – Yangon).
When I look at the website of AirAsia, I see now that there are no more flights from Colombo: does anyone know anything about this: is it temporary? Are there other low-cost airlines that will bring us from Colombo to Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur?
Thanks a lot!

Hi ingeborgdv!Welcome to TT!
Air Asia ended their flights to Colombo. I think it's unlikely they resume them next year but it could happen (i.e.: stay tunned to the news).
Regarding low-cost airlines flying to Colombo that could be useful for you, I think Tiger Airways to Singapore would be your best bet.
It could be a good idea to take a look at other airlines (not low cost) too.

Hi, I flew from bkk to colombo with sri lanka air on feb 23,13. I got a good last min special for 110 usd with all taxes n fees. The plane was a little old but food and service great. Also the flight was direct from bkk, no stop in kl or sin.Edited by: soundsrad

Thanks a lot for your answers!Tiger Airways is indeed a good budget option, except that we’ll be travelling a long time to get there: Colombo – Singapore, Singapore – Bangkok, Bangkok – Yangon.
I took your advice and looked at some other non-lowcost options and I’ve found a flight with Thai Air from Colombo to Bangkok for only a little more than with Tiger Airways, but direct.
When I look at Sri Lankan Air now, it’s still too expensive, but I’ll keep the option in mind when we’ll book the flight, in case we can have some good last-minute option there.
Thanks for your help!

Hi,Air Asia not flying anymore to/from Colombo- KL threw a monkey wrench in my planning for my upcoming trip to Sri Lanka this summer. Tiger Airways flies to Colombo, but only from Singapore, but their flight schedules if you leave from KL means sometimes having to spend a very long layover in Singapore. So you'll have to bite the bullet and a spend a little more money for convenience and flexibilty, imho.
Malaysia Airlines is your best bet. It's the least expensive for a direct flight from/to KL-Colombo. One way KL to Colombo = MYR 649. It's a 3 1/2 hour flight.
This is the comparaison for flights on August 8th:
Tiger would go one way from KL like this: 1 hour flight to Singapore. 11 hour layover and 4 hours flight from Sin to Colombo for MYR 405 + another MYR 38 for check in luggage (15KG).
There are no flights on the 7th and on the 9th the minimum layover is 3 hrs. So there's also dates restrictions.
