Yunnan in early April 2013 for recommendations and looking to meet up

Hi,

I am traveling in Yunnan for about a week in early April and planning to visit Kunming, Shangra-Li, Dali, Lijiang, Tiger Leaping Gorge. Looking to do some biking and hiking. I would appreciate any and all recommendations - places to stay, tours, sites, and if anyone else is going to be traveling there the same days and wants to meet up for some sightseeing that would be great too. Should I have any concerns about safety? Thanks!

i week to visit these places is not enough. better to cut KunMing and flight to Shangri-la direct.then to tiger leaping gorge trek, LiJiang,Dali.you can use public transfer also can use private car between the city. 2days 1 night trek in tiger leaping gorge is very easy to do, there have a lot of trail sign to show you the way. i have been there many times, theyaktraveller.

Hello,
Yunnan is a friendly area to travellers, April is a great time to visit it. No worry too much, you will be fine.

I am very familiar with the Northwest part of Yunnan( Shangri-la, TLG, Lijiang,Dali), i think it is a perfect place for biking and hiking. I suggest you to travel following this route: Shangri-la--Baishuitai--TLG--lijiang---Dali. For terrain and distance of each location etc, feel free to PM me.

Hope it helps,

Happy cycling!

Tiger Leaping Gorge is 27 miles trek at high altitude. There are steep switchbacks if you start from Lijiang. It you don't have time for 2 days, there is a shuttlebus tour of the gorge instead. Google "Tiger Leaping Gorge" and you will see an agency has put up a map with shuttlebus stops on its web site.

Hi will be there in April too!!a meet up would be great! The only part I am planning to cycle is Lijiang-Baisha though....also not planning on doing a lot of trekkking except where absolutely necessary like some portions of TLG that have no transportation at all.
trekker502,what is the TLG shuttle bus?Does it travel from Qiaotou to Daju? Can I take it for small trips,e.g,from Daju to Walnut grove and back?
Thanks!

I found the information online by googling "Tiger Leaping Gorge Trek China" I was not able to save the map off of the internet to use as reference. One shuttlebus goes to Tina's Guest House and another shuttlebus goes to a spot across the Yangtzie River from Walnut Grove, starting from Shangri-la side. I don't know how many miles trek from there to Walnut Grove. There is also a tour along the length of the Gorge for those who do not want to trek.
