Coast capital

I know this is a stretch but has anyone from B.C. ever tried using a coast capital savings debit card in Cuba?

The CIBC Advantage Visa Debit Card has worked for a long time now and it has recently been joined by the TD Canada Trust Visa Debit Card and the Visa Desjardins Prepaid Card, but I've never heard of the Coast Capital Savings Debit Card.

Does it have a Visa symbol? If not, you're screwed.

In any case unless you get direct experience from at least one dependable, believable poster don't count on it working. And of course travelling to Cuba with only once source of funds would be ridiculous too...

Good luck.

Cheers,
Terry

ditto to Cherry Terry reply. Coast Capital Saving is a credit union based in Surrey BC and the Visa card is issued through Desjardins

Short answer - it will NOT work in Cuba. A few years ago, the Canadian credit unions got a new Visa affiliation that is actually US-based, so no cards (including credit cards) from credit unions will work in Cuba.

Patty, I thought it was only Mastercards from Canadian Credit Unions that were useless in Cuba - you're saying that all Visa cards are no good as well?

Cheers,
Terry

I wish there were a delete button. Of course, you are right Terry -- that's what I was thinking of. AND then I may also be wrong with the debit cards... Coast Capital debit card has a chip. I think it was sent out to all members. CC is in Vancouver and on Vancouver Island, don't know where else.

Perhaps Bro has called them to ask and been told yes and just wants real-time confirmation?

Personally, I'm going with CIBC visa and debit... That's a sure thing.

Cash is King in Cuba but no harm in having a Visa Card from Canada as a back-up. Have a great trip
